Collapsible Agitators

Collapsible Agitators are specifically designed for vessels with restricted manway access, where conventional rigid impellers cannot be installed easily. These agitators feature impellers that fold or collapse for installation and then unfold inside the tank, enabling full operational performance without requiring large access openings. REMI offers two main variants to address different mixing requirements:

5.5.1 Cone Type

The Cone Type collapsible agitator is ideal for high-viscosity liquids, such as paints, coatings, and other thick solutions. Its design ensures uniform bottom sweeping and effective suspension of viscous materials, preventing dead zones and ensuring consistent product quality. The cone-shaped impeller promotes strong axial flow, which moves material efficiently from the bottom toward the top of the vessel, making it suitable for applications where high-viscosity mixing and thorough homogenization are essential.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Designed for high-viscosity fluids
  • Provides uniform bottom sweeping
  • Prevents material settling and dead zones
  • Collapsible for easy installation through narrow manways

5.5.2 Hydrofoil Type

The Hydrofoil Type collapsible agitator is designed for low- to medium-viscosity liquids that require high-flow, low-shear mixing. The energy-efficient hydrofoil blades collapse for easy entry and expand once inside the vessel. Once deployed, the blades generate powerful axial and radial flows, promoting rapid mixing while minimizing shear stress, making them suitable for sensitive liquids, blending, and large-volume tanks.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Energy-efficient, low-shear mixing
  • High-flow circulation for rapid homogenization
  • Collapsible for narrow access
  • Suitable for shear-sensitive and low- to medium-viscosity fluids
Capability highlights

Coaxial Agitators

Coaxial Agitators are specialized mixing systems that utilize two concentric shafts operating independently, each capable of rotating at a different speed and in different directions. This dual-shaft configuration allows the agitator to perform complex mixing tasks that would be difficult or impossible with a single-shaft system. The inner shaft is typically designed for high-shear operations, such as dispersing solids, powders, or viscous additives into a liquid, while the outer shaft provides macro-mixing or bulk circulation, ensuring homogeneity throughout the vessel.

The independent control of shaft speeds and directions enables precise tuning of the flow patterns, shear rates, and turbulence levels, making coaxial agitators exceptionally versatile for high-viscosity and highly demanding applications. The design reduces dead zones, enhances mass transfer, and ensures consistent product quality even in materials with viscosities ranging from 1,000 cP to over 1,000,000 cP.

Applications:

  • High-viscosity fluid mixing such as paints, adhesives, and resins
  • Grease and lubricant production
  • Food products with thick consistency (e.g., peanut butter, margarine)
  • Cosmetic creams and ointments
  • Chemical slurries requiring both dispersion and bulk mixing

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Dual concentric shafts for simultaneous high-shear dispersion and bulk mixing
  • Independent speed and direction control for precise process optimization
  • Reduces energy consumption by tailoring shear and flow to the material properties
  • Suitable for extremely high-viscosity materials, where conventional agitators fail
  • Minimizes dead zones and ensures uniform product consistency

By combining macro-circulation with localized high-shear zones in one unit, coaxial agitators significantly improve process efficiency, reduce mixing times, and enhance product quality in industries handling complex or viscous fluids

Sealless Magnetic Drive

Sealless Magnetic Drive Agitators are advanced mixing systems designed to eliminate the need for mechanical seals, using a magnetic coupling to transmit torque from the motor to the impeller without any physical shaft penetration through the vessel wall. This design completely removes dynamic seals, which are traditionally the primary source of leakage in conventional agitators. By doing so, these agitators offer a truly leak-free operation, making them ideal for handling toxic, corrosive, flammable, high-purity, or otherwise hazardous fluids.

The magnetic drive consists of two main components: a drive magnet assembly connected to the motor, and a driven magnet assembly attached to the impeller inside the vessel. The torque is transmitted across a containment shell via magnetic fields, allowing the impeller to rotate inside a fully sealed vessel. This containment shell is typically made of corrosion-resistant materials such as stainless steel, Hastelloy, or PTFE-lined alloys, ensuring chemical compatibility with aggressive process fluids.

Technical Advantages:

  • Zero leakage: Eliminates the primary source of fluid loss and contamination.
  • High containment integrity: Suitable for toxic, volatile, or sterile process fluids.
  • Reduced maintenance: No dynamic seals to wear or replace, significantly lowering downtime.
  • Chemical compatibility: Available with high-grade materials for handling aggressive acids, solvents, or high-purity pharmaceuticals.
  • Safe for hazardous environments: Prevents exposure to toxic or flammable chemicals, enhancing operator and environmental safety.
  • Flexible drive options: Can be operated with variable frequency drives (VFDs) to adjust impeller speed for optimized mixing, shear, and energy efficiency.

Applications:

  • Pharmaceutical production requiring sterile or high-purity conditions
  • Chemical processes involving corrosive acids, alkalis, or solvents
  • Handling flammable liquids where seal leakage poses explosion risks
  • Food and beverage processes requiring sanitary, leak-free operation
  • Paints, coatings, and adhesives requiring high containment integrity

Sealless magnetic drive agitators are particularly suited for processes where zero leakage is non-negotiable and safety, product integrity, and environmental compliance are critical. Their ability to handle a wide range of viscosities—from low-viscosity solvents to high-viscosity slurries—makes them a versatile choice for both continuous and batch mixing applications.
